‘HAR GHAR NAL SE JAL’ SCHEME

Since August 2019, Government of India, in partnership with States, is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal to make provision of tap water supply to every rural household by 2024. Water is a state subject and therefore, the primary responsibility for planning and implementing piped water supply schemes to provide tap water to their households, lies with the respective State/UT. Government of India supplements the efforts of the States by providing technical and financial assistance under JJM.

As on 26.07.2023, 6 States of Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Telangana, and 3 UTs of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, and Puducherry reported to have provided tap water connection to every rural household in their State/UT.

Under JJM, a functional household tap connection is defined as having service levels of adequate quantity (55 liters per capita per day), of prescribed quality (as per BIS:10500 norms) on regular basis as per the schedule decided by the Pnachayat/ Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC).

As per Operational Guidelines of JJM, after making provision of tap connections to all rural households in a village, the Department implementing the scheme provides completion certificate to Gram Panchayat and marks the village as ‘Har Ghar Jal’ village on JJM-IMIS. Subsequently, Gram Sabha while reading out aloud the work completion report in its meeting, formally passes resolution certifying itself as ‘Har Ghar Jal’ village. The copy of certificate provided by implementing department, resolution passed by Gram Sabha, and a small video capturing the Gram Sabha is reflected on JJM Dashboard and village is marked certified in JJM-IMIS. As such, certification is carried out only at village level, in such villages where all households are reported to have been provided tap water connections.

As on 26.07.2023, out of 1,76,363 villages are reported as ‘Har Ghar Jal’ by implementing departments in States/ UTs, 65,826 villages have been certified by gram sabhas, as ‘Har Ghar Jal’ villages.

SVANidhi Mahotsav

To encompass the spirit of India’s freedom and celebrate its 75 years of independence, Government of India conceptualized Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), commemorating India’s glorious history, its people, and achievements.

Street vendors (SVs) are the nano entrepreneurs of the country playing a significant role in ensuring availability of the goods and services at affordable rates at the doorstep of the city dwellers. They have been an essential part of India’s economic growth with linkages with the formal economy. The street vendor community was adversely impacted due to the lockdown, imposed by COVID-19, leading to rapid erosion in their capital base.

To provide handholding support to street vendors, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched PM SVANidhi a micro credit scheme, facilitating a working capital collateral free loan of ₹10,000, with subsequent loans of ₹20,000 and ₹50,000 with 7% interest subsidy. The scheme focuses on increasing the digital footprint in India by promoting the use of digital transactions among street vendors. To incentivize adoption of digital transactions, a cashback of up to ₹100 per month is given to Street Vendors.
